Home gym in progress

gloomy_sprinkles_830Aug 28, 10:02 AM

Took a couple of years but my home gym is finally starting to take shape. Have tried to make the most out of the limited space we have with versatile pieces. \-REP AB-3000 2.0 FID adjustable bench - meh, does the job but not my favorite especially seeing some of the new benches that have come out \-REP x P脡PIN FAST Series Adjustable Dumbbell - love these, especially once I got the cradle properly adjusted and setup. Also a game changer to get them off the ground on a (albeit makeshift) stand \-Rogue Echo Air Bike - hate it but love it \-Freak Athlete Hyper Pro - very versatile for the price \-Bells of Steel Cable Tower - 83 inch ceilings limit us in the height department but adding this for cable work has been very nice. Selectorized is also very convenient versus the plate loaded version. Matt Rosenman鈥檚 solution for low ceilings was also very key to making lat pull downs more functional than sitting on the floor. \-Wall Control panels for organizing accessories. Planning on someday getting an Ares or Altitude rack system when we move houses so didn鈥檛 want to spend on a short term rack that would still be limited with the height. But having a gym at home has been more of a luxury than I thought it would be.

Appreciate holding off on a rack until you move, and that low ceiling cable tower workaround looks like it took some real problem solving.

Nice setup. Glad I stumbled across this as I'll be copying your Matt R additional upper pulley concept for my BOS Oblivyon tower.

Solid gym setup man! I feel like you could knock down the wall with the attachments & mount them on the block wall? Bigger floor plan? 馃

Hyper Pro is sweet. Mine lives in that configuration as default unless I have GHDs programmed into a block. How low is your ceiling?

  • gloomy_sprinkles_8_2路Aug 28, 7:43 PM

83 inches, with concrete floors that are cracked and not level to boot

That鈥檚 awesome bro 馃槑. Very nice and nothing wrong with humble beginnings. Makes you appreciate it even more. Keep on going bro 馃挭馃挭馃挭 We will both own a Ares one day 馃槀 specially as many as I see on FB marketplace.

Nice space. What are you using for mat flooring? Would you choose it again?

    How do you squat

  • gloomy_sprinkles_8_3路Aug 29, 7:49 PM

Room with the air bike and hyper pro is just horse stall mats from fleet farm. They're fine and functional, probably wouldn't be my first choice but nothing against them other than being bulky. Other space uses fit lock rubber tiles from American Floor Mats. I was able to get a good deal on FB marketplace but the 2x2 sizing is much more manageable while serving the same purpose.

I was limited by height so had to go with his initial upper pulley concept, but if I had the space would definitely try and do his add on top of the pulley tower for the more traditional lat pulldown. Big fan of the BOS towers! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vae3ymZshIA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vae3ymZshIA)

    One day!

Yeah I've seen similar stuff done. Unfortunately I didn't realize how limiting the position of the pulleys and the cable paths (front of pillar) would be for customization when buying their newest Oblivyon tower (with a 3x3 1 inch front post). I see how I can mount a single pulley like yours!

    You got this!

  • slave_dominator路Aug 30, 9:53 AM

Damnn man, how much did it cost in total? And what's the area of the gym room?

Congrats and welcome to the home gym family! And just so you know, our gyms are always in some form of "progress", even though we think that we're done, until that shiny, new, upgrade to an existing piece or a totally new piece is introduced, and then we find a way to fit it in and afford it. Then we eventually run out of room, so we get a new building and then fill that up till we're actually done! https://preview.redd.it/g7f9ams5jrgh1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21092ec3c16f2584254c215ccfdc26fe5c5ae012 I now have a 20x10 shed gym, got some new "stuff" since I now had room, and this cargo trailer is now my HIIT cardio gym, so it's still in use. Enjoy your progress on your fitness journey and NEVER QUIT!

Probably single leg variations while holding dumbbells? Looks like that鈥檚 easily enough weight for Bulgarian split squats and lunges
